Schools are not allowed to turn students away or set a cut off mark as criteria for being accepted.

Education Minister Filipe Bole said all schools must give a chance to all students who want to enroll at their schools irrespective of what marks they achieve in exams.

His comments come after some parents raised concerns that their children were not being accepted into certain schools after being told they did not achieve the required entry marks in the exams.

Some schools have for years made it a policy that students have to attain 400 or 450 in the Fiji Eighth Year Exam to qualify for form three in their schools.

Bole said there is no policy in place which said that schools are allowed to set a cut off mark for students, so they must consider all students who come to them for enrollment.

However he adds schools are allowed to give first priority to students who are currently attending their school.
