The two schools which have been badly affected due to fire incidents last week are to open for classes today.
This is the directive from Education Minister Filipe Bole who said arrangements should have been made to ensure Lautoka Muslim Primary and Votualevu Public School resume classes today.
The National Fire Authority (NFA) believes there is a need for fire exercises in schools to ensure there are no fire incidents in future.
Divisional Fire Officer Western Isoa Makutu said they will have to work with the OHS Department and the Education Ministry.
He has called on school managements to ensure that they keep fire safety equipments in schools to avoid fire incidents.
Around 385 students of Lautoka Muslim Primary School have been left without classrooms and 200 students of Votualevu Public School have also been affected after a fire destroyed their class rooms last week.
The 385 students of Lautoka Muslim Primary school will attend classes in makeshift tents with the assistance of the RFMF while the Head Teacher of Votualevu Public School has also confirmed that arrangements have been made for the students to attend normal classes.
All the examination papers for the students were destroyed in the fire on Friday and teachers are now working overtime to prepare new internal exam papers.
