Certain subjects in secondary schools have merged, reducing the number of subjects, however offering a broader subject base.

Education Minister Filipe Bole said certain subjects have merged like Woodwork, Metalwork, Graphic Arts and Technical Drawing which will now be called Industrial Arts while Food, Nutrition, Clothing and Textile will join under the banner Advanced Home Economics.

As a result, Bole said by reducing the number of subjects taught in schools, there will also be a decrease in the number of teachers needed.

He said this merge also offers teachers the opportunity to be skilled in a wide range of subjects adding these joint subjects will be implemented, first in 100 schools on a trial basis, once the curriculum is completed and teachers are trained accordingly.
