The Lautoka Muslim Primary School has received $50,000 assistance from the Education Ministry, after it was destroyed by fire last week.

It has been confirmed that the money will be used to purchase new furniture for the school as ministry is expected to provide another $150,000 for construction of new building once the school committee provides them with approved plan for the building.

About 300 students are studying in a tent provided by the Military.

Meanwhile, education ministry is still discussing on how Votualevu Public School in Nadi will be assisted as they too had classrooms damaged by fire.

Minister Filipe Bole said they will have further talks with school committee of Votualevu Public before giving assistance.

According to Bole he has received a report on fire and the damages from Education officials in the Western Division.

He said assistance will surely be given.

Classes began in both schools on Monday as alternative arrangements were made to ensure students studies were not affected.
