School management ordered to move
High Court Judge Justice Davendra Pathik granted an interim injunction against the trustees and management of the school restraining them from closing the school or in any way interfering with the orderly running of the school or in any way interfering with the principal and the teachers of the school.
The School Manager Ratu Villiame Ralulu said that they will respect the Court order.
Ralulu closed the school saying that their grievance to remove the acting Principal and to have a replacement in Term 3 has not been addressed by the Education Ministry.
Meanwhile, Minister Filipe Bole said under the Education Act, only the Permanent Secretary for Education has the powers to close schools and nobody else can do that.
Also, the Education Ministry is re-introducing the pre-service certificate course for secondary school teachers commonly known as the Secondary Teacher Certificate as the ministry recruited graduate teachers without teacher training.
Bole said the exercise is part of the strategy to maintain the quality of education as a result of the retirement of teachers in April this year due to the new retirement age policy.
About 120 teachers will be recruited on November 30th to start the 12th cycle of this programme and are expected to graduate in December 2010. Four subject combinations will be offered in cycle 12, which are Accounting and Economics, Biology and Chemistry, Mathematics and Physics and English/History and Geography.
