A school in Suva forked out money from its coffers yesterday to send students’ home after the tsunami warning was issued.
Veiuto Primary School's Assistant Head teacher, Sainiana Hicks said the move is expensive however they are convinced as administrators that the safety of the children is more important.
She said parents should not be left worrying and running around because as teachers they are expected to get the children home safely.
Meanwhile, the General Secretary of Fiji Bus Operators Association, Rohit Latchan yesterday stressed that in case of emergency, students will not be asked for adult fares and will be dropped to their destination with the student fare they have.
He said drivers cannot be in a demanding position during a disaster evacuation.
