School fire started from refrigerator
Police Media Officer West, Wame Bautolu said the initial investigations reveal that there was a short-circuit in the refrigerator.
He said investigations are still continuing.
Meanwhile, classes have begun as normal today in the two Primary schools damaged by fire in the Western Division last week.
The Education Minister issued a directive to management of Lautoka Muslim Primary and Votualevu Public School to resume classes today.
For Lautoka Muslim Primary school, 422 out of 584 students today are attending classes as majority of them have been accommodated in the library, school mosque and other empty rooms.
The tent in the compound is yet to be set as turnout is expected to improve later in the week. The Education ministry has promised to provide over $200,000 worth of assistance to the school for reconstruction of classrooms, office and purchasing of furniture and other stationery which were destroyed last Tuesday.
For Votualevu Public school in Nadi, classes have been combined today.
Three classrooms, the staff room and the school office have been destroyed with its contents.
Over 200 students are affected.
Teachers are in the process of preparing the Annual Exam papers again as papers were destroyed in the fire.
Students are expected to sit the annual examinations in the coming days.
Divisional Education Officer Western, Naren Prasad is currently touring the school and assessing damages.
