The Permanent Secretary of Education is the only person in authority who can decide when to close the schools if the Fiji Teachers Association members go on strike from this Thursday.
In an exclusive interview with Village News, Interim Minister for Education, Netani Sukanaivalu said if more than 70 percent of teachers in a school go on strike, they the school will close.
However, Sukanaivalu adds that the Education Ministry's contingency plan is unlikely to be used in the boarding schools.
FTA executive members are currently meeting and are expected to comment later today.
