The management of Lautoka Muslim Primary School is trying to build a shed in the school compound for students to study as about 15 classrooms were razed in an early morning fire this morning.

School manager Joseph Ali said the committee had an emergency meeting as they have agreed to resume classes soon as possible.

Ali added they are trying to arrange for furniture and other stationery before students are called back to resume classes.

The fire started around 1.30 this morning and destroyed the building which had classes one, two, three and five, the school office, the kindergarten room, vernacular room and Arabic room.

The estimated cost of damage is over half a million dollars.

Meanwhile, the Lautoka City Council has joined hands with the school management and the government to provide assistance.

Council CEO Pushp Raj said this is to ensure the safety of over 350 students who will be having their classes in tents for the rest of the year.

He said the council has always called on the National Fire Authority and PWD to improve their services as Lautoka City has already lost some big buildings to fires.
