The School Heads and Management of Veiuto Primary School and Suva Grammar School acted quickly to evacuate the students to higher ground following the tsunami warning issued this morning.
Vueuto Primary School Assistant Head Teacher Sainiana Hicks said they acted on their own discretion as the safety of the children is paramount.
She added that arrangements have been made to ensure the children reach home safely and those whose parents are at work will be supervised until this afternoon.
