The management of Mahatma Gandhi Memorial (MGM) Primary School in Vatuwaqa is now looking at plans to buy water tanks in an effort to ensure their students are not affected by sudden water cuts.

Speaking to Fijivillage, school head-teacher Hem Raj said although the Public Works Department restored the water supply at about midnight, they are concerned as this is the third time this year that they have suffered water cuts.

Raj added as a result of the water cut yesterday, they had rescheduled their trial exams for the students and sent a total of 500 students home yesterday with the reminder kept in school until their parents could come and pick them up.

Raj added that when such cuts occur, school children are the ones heavily affected as they would need to have extra classes to catch up with their school work as the teachers are following a set timetable when it comes to syllabus.

However, Divisional Water Engineer Central/ Eastern Division Sereicocoko Yanuyanurua said sending children home should be the last option.
