Scaling is brought about so students across the board have access to opportunities to further their career.

Interim Minister for Education Filipe Bole said following the release of the Fiji Junior, Fiji School Leaving and Form Seven Examination results, people have a lot of misconceptions about scaling.

According to Bole, scaling is introduced because school children have an option to choose their favourite subject which is added on to their English and Maths results.

This result is used when securing scholarships.

Bole added the results will differ for various students and in order to ensure a standard mark, scaling is imposed.

According to the Ministry, scaling is imposed because there is no comparability between subjects.

The FJC results are used to secure a spot in a top secondary school while the FSLC and Fiji Seventh Form exams are used by the PSC and the FAB scholarship units to secure places for USP, FIT, FSN and even Fiji School of Medicine.
