The Fiji Saw millers Association yesterday filed a legal action at the Lautoka High Court against the Interim Government, challenging the royalty hikes and the manner which the Conservator of Forest has conducted the assessments.
President of the Fiji Saw millers Association, Jay Dayal said that Government had quietly and very unfairly assessed the royalty rates without giving the industry which involves 20 saw millers reasonable time to act.
Meanwhile the royalty hike in certain species is as much as 470 percent, and such increases are not based on any applicable data to support it.
The case will be recalled on the 12th of next month. Government is represented by the Solicitor General's office.
