The Fiji Saw millers Association is raising serious concerns and is contemplating legal action against the Native Land Trust Board and the Ministry of Forestry after the royalties on various timber was increased by upto 270%.
Association President Jay Dayal told Fijivillage news that the massive increases have been imposed without consultations and despite an earlier assurance that this will not be done.
According to Dayal is the decision is not revoked, many sawmillers would be forced out of business.
Questions on the matter have been sent to the NLTB while the Inteirm Minister for Forestry Joketani Cokanasiga is currently in a meeting and could not be reached for a comment.
