Ardie Savea will be in good shape for his return to sevens, although early in his sevens training he struggled a bit with the added fitness needed.
All Blacks 7s coach Gordon Tietjens says Savea was one who needed to do extra work to get fit at the first national camp in early January, but since then he has impressed enough to earn a spot in Wellington.
Allowing for his Super Rugby commitments at the Hurricanes, and a knowledge of the sevens game, Savea is expected to play four world series tournaments to prepare him for the Rio Olympics.
Following Wellington, he hopes to be selected for the Sydney Sevens next week, then he will return to the Hurricanes for 10 Super Rugby matches.
New Zealand is in pool A with South Africa, Scotland and Russia.
