The Commerce Commission is urging telecommunication providers in the country to share their infrastructure in order to reduce their operating costs.
Commission Chairman Dr Mahendra Reddy said it has become common business practice internationally where telecom providers share their towers and transmitter sites which has proven to be an effective cost reduction exercise for all parties involved.
Meanwhile, Dr Reddy stressed that the status quo cannot remain and the retail rates for telecommunication services must be reduced following the reduction in interconnectivity rates announced by the Commission earlier this month.
However, Dr Reddy said Telecom Fiji Limited, Digicel and Vodafone must be given time to review their retail rates and he expects the new reduced retail rates to come into effect within the next month.
