The Registrar of Political Parties Mohammed Saneem is yet to receive the audited accounts of the suspended National Federation Party certified by the Fiji Institute of Accountants.
Saneem has confirmed to Fijivillage that the suspended party has not submitted the accounts after the suspension from February 1st.
The 30 day deadline ends on March 1st.
Based on the Political Parties Decree, the Registrar of Political Parties can suspend the suspended party for another 30 days.
If they still do not remedy the breach, then the suspended party will be deregistered.
The party was suspended for 30 days for contravening the Political Parties Decree.
Saneem had announced that the suspended NFP’s accounts were not audited by an accountant certified by the Fiji Institute of Accountants.
He says this was brought to the Fijian Elections Office’s attention in December last year by the Fiji Institute of Accountants.
He says they asked the company engaged by the suspended party if it was a registered member of the Fiji Institute of Accountants, and senior management confirmed that it was not.
We have contacted the lawyer for the suspended party.
Richard Naidu will comment later this afternoon.
