Permanent Secretary for Elections, Mohammed Saneem said Quality Print Limited was given the contract to print the 40 electoral rolls for $180,000 after the Elections Office invited 11 companies to discuss the exact specifications.

While clarifying the process followed to print the National Register of Voters to Fijivillage, Saneem said that nine companies accepted the invite and three companies submitted their quotations.

Saneem said following this, Quality Print was awarded the contract.

He also clarified that the entire National Register of Voters is about 19 books and most of the books contain about 500 pages.

Saneem also said that the book has full colour high resolution photos of each voter.

This follows questions raised by the Social Democratic and Liberal Party.

SODELPA’s senior executive, Doctor Tupeni Baba said while they welcome the publishing of the National Register of Voters, it should have been done last year.

Doctor Baba said to uphold transparency and accountability, the Permanent Secretary for Elections should reveal whether proper tender processes were followed for the printing of the electoral rolls and whether $4,500 per roll is the most competitive price for the printing of each electoral roll.

The National Register of Voters has been unveiled by the Attorney General and Minister for Elections, Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum with 540 thousand 164 registered voters on the roll for the 2014 elections.

Sayed-Khaiyum said members of the public can now check their names and verify the roll starting tomorrow at various locations.

Sayed-Khaiyum said the National Register will be available at a number of locations around the Central, Eastern, Western and Northern divisions from tomorrow.

He urges all registered voters to check their details.
