Samoan Prime Minister Tuilaepa Sailele has expressed concerns with the interim government's version of his meeting with Fiji's envoy, Permanent Secretary for Foreign Affairs Ross Ligairi, earlier this week and at a media release issued on the meeting.

Radio New Zealand reported that in a statement, Sailele said he wanted an update on recent political developments in Fiji from Ligairi and the visit was accepted on this basis.

He said it is unacceptable that the interim government then saw it fit to put out a media statement that attributed his views and even quoted what he was supposed to have said from a meeting that was considered to be confidential.

The Samoan Prime Minister said Ligairi knows very well the message which he wanted relayed back to Interim Prime Minister Commodore Frank Bainimarama and it was not what was reported in the interim government’s media release.

The media release stated that Sailele was supportive of the political dialogue process as a way forward for Fiji and also committed Samoa's assistance and support to the consensus building process.

Sailele was quoted as saying that as a member of the Ministerial Contact Group he was looking forward to further dialogue and discussions with Fiji.
