In last night’s results, South Africa has beaten Samoa 13-5 in a bruising World Cup clash which ends the Samoan campaign.

Down 13-0 at halftime, the gutsy Pacific Island side dominated for large periods of a furious second half at North Harbour Stadium but could only come up with a try to impressive Number 8 George Stowers.

It wasn’t enough to overhaul the defending champions, who opened up a handy lead courtesy of an early try to wing Bryan Habana.

Their other points came from the boots of first five eighth Morne Steyn and second five eighth Frans Steyn, the latter knocking over a penalty close to 60 metre with the assistance of a healthy wind.

Victory means the Springboks are guaranteed top ranking in pool D and a place in the quarter finals.

Stand in captain, Victor Matfield said they have to keep on working in improving their game plan in trying to defend the RWC title.

For Samoa skipper, Mahonri Schwalger he was happy with the results knowing the quality of the team they were up against.

In today’s matches, Australia plays Russia at 2.30pm, France will take on Tonga at 5pm and England will battle it out with Scotland at 7.30pm.
