There are startling revelations that the bus which caught fire and claimed the lives of ten people in Malaqereqere last Thursday had also caught fire after an accident last year.
Acting LTA Chief Executive Officer Etuate Koroi said he was informed by the owner of Raiwaqa Bus Company that it was the same bus that caught fire while carrying the Nasinu soccer team during last year's Fiji FACT Tournament.
Koroi added that the accident that claimed the lives of ten innocent people has been an eye opener for the Land Transport Authority and sent signals that there is a need to relook at measures which could avoid such incidents in the future.
He added that they will carry out strict inspections to ensure that buses have maintenance records, display emergency exits and also have fire extinguishers.
