A bright start to the season has put the Chiefs in a strong position to challenge for this year's Super Rugby title, but Sam Cane isn't satisfied.

The 2012 and 2013 champions watched close rivals the Hurricanes and Crusaders pick up victories over the weekend, with the Chiefs now trailing the Hurricanes by three points.

Six wins from eight matches is a healthy return but Sam Cane admits that the side's two close defeats so far this year, to the Highlanders and the Sharks, has not been easy to let go.

After Round 8 of Super Rugby, the Hurricanes continue to top the table with 31 points, second are the Brumbies with 24 points while the Bulls trail in third place with 19 points.

The Chiefs, Hurricanes and Rebels will be on a bye this week.
