Police have charged a Sakoca man with one count of rape who is alleged to have raped a 24-year-old woman inside his house yesterday.

Police media liaison officer Atunaisa Sokomuri confirmed that the man has been charged and he is expected to appear in the Nasinu Court tomorrow.

The victim and her husband, who are from Suva, went to drink grog at the suspect's house when the alleged incident took place.

It is alleged that the three were drinking grog and when the grog finished, the suspect insisted that he wanted to drink some more.

The suspect and the victim's husband then went out looking for grog. It is alleged that the suspect told the man to wait outside a neighbour's house while he looked for some grog.

Sokomuri said the suspect then went back to his house and allegedly raped the woman who was sleeping at the time.
