Health Inspectors visited the Roko Tui Tailevu and Roko Tui Rewa offices this week raising concern about safe food handling.

Health Spokesperson Iliesa Tora said it was agreed in Tailevu that all village Turaga ni Koro's and village health workers in the province will undergo awareness training on Food Safety and Hygiene tomorrow.

He said these people have important roles to play within their own individual village set-ups and they will also be the ones who will have to relay the messages down to the villagers.

Tora said the Roko Tui Rewa has agreed that the issue will be discussed during the Tikina Council Meeting which will start next Tuesday.

The visit took place after the Suva City Council banned the selling of cooked food at the market after a woman died after consuming the food and since then the SCC and Health Ministry officials are working together to see that the vendors selling pre-cooked food and sea food are well versed with Food Safety and Hygiene methods.
