61 of the 114 Works Ministry workers who were sacked for their alleged involvement in the sick sheet scam yesterday afternoon filed legal action against the Permanent Secretary for Works Commander Francis Kean.
Their lawyer Rajendra Chaudhry claimed that proper procedures were not followed when the workers were sacked.
When Fijivillage questioned Chaudhry about his clients actions which included them getting sick sheets without physical examinations by the doctor concerned, he stressed that his clients were not involved in the scam and they were entitled to get sick sheets.
Chaudhry said his clients are seeking an order for immediate reinstatement with no loss of benefits or alternatively that they be sent on leave with full pay and no loss of benefits till the court decides on their case.
Commander Kean had said earlier this week that they had liaised with the PSC and the Solicitor General’s Office before deciding on the sacking of the workers.
