Interim Prime Minister Commodore Frank Bainimarama has come out and said that the senior Indo-Fijian police officers, who are disloyal and have complained about the Police Christian Crusade to the media, should be sacked.
He said Teleni's actions were justified when he called the meeting of the senior Indo-Fijian officers in Nasova and warned them to follow his orders or get out of the force.
Bainimarama said none of the police officers are being forced to join the Police Christian Crusade and those who belong to other religions are free to do their own prayers.
Bainimarama said there is a plot being hatched by some journalists and senior Indian police officers to discredit Teleni and the Christian Crusade.
Bainimarama stressed this will not be entertained.
Meanwhile, Interim Defence Minister Ratu Epeli Ganilau is satisfied with Teleni's explanation on why he called a meeting with his senior Indo-Fijian officers to warn them that they would be sacked if they are disloyal.
Ratu Epeli said it is understandable that Teleni was carrying out a meeting to put things into perspective as he is focusing on discipline and teamwork in the Fiji Police Force.
Fiji Human Rights Commission (FHRC) Dr Shaista Shameem said going to the media stops the proper resolution of any problems.
She said the senior police officers who could have complained to Teleni but went to the media instead need to examine their consciences too, to see whether they did the right thing, adding there are internal mechanisms to deal with problems.
Meanwhile, Fiji Teachers Union (FTU)General Secretary Agni Deo Singh said Teleni's behaviour is unbecoming of a Police Commissioner.
He said the behaviour of Teleni is not a good message to the students.
The Movement for Democracy Chairperson Attar Singh said the Police Commissioner's comments has brought disrepute to the Police Force and must be made to step down.
The Pacific Concerns Resource Centre's Ema Tagicakibau said the interim Prime Minister's backing of Teleni is expected but brings into question whether the interim regime is genuinely committed to working towards a united Fiji.
Meanwhile, former Opposition leader Mick Beddoes said Teleni's threat is insightful and repulsive, but reflective of the reduced level of intellect currently possessed by the Military Junta.
