After several attempts to have their land vacated, the Arya Partindhi Sabha of Fiji has taken the residents of the Wailea squatter settlement in Vatuwaqa to court.

President Sushila Pathik said their plans to develop the land for residential purposes have been on hold for a while as some of the residents are still refusing to move.

Pathik said they had no choice but to take the matter to court as several eviction notices have been given to the residents to vacate the land.

According to the association lawyer Anand Tikaram, the last eviction notice served was on the 8th of August where the resients were given 30 days to vacate the land. He adds a summon was issued on the 8th of October to vacate the land but nothing has happened since then.

Tikaram said the matter is before the courts.
