The South Pacific Commission today handed equipments to the Health Ministry to improve surveillance and the response capacities in Fiji.
SPC's Pacific Regional Influenza Pandemic Preparedness Project's Dr Narendra Singh said the equipments will be used for communicable diseases in Fiji such as typhoid, dengue and leptospirosis.
He said these equipments will assist in transferring data from laboratory setup or from the field to the Central level.
Meanwhile, Health Minister Dr Neil Sharma said an action and outreach service to the community is important.
The equipment including 15 notebooks and prepaid wireless modems worth $35,000 as part of Pacific Regional Influenza Pandemic Preparedness Project Small Grant Facility.
