The Social Democratic Liberal Party has made it clear that it will check the status in law of the 1997 constitution if it forms the next government after the September 17th general elections.

SODELPA leader Ro Teimumu Kepa said SODELPA and other potential partners in cabinet feel this is necessary for the people of Fiji.

While speaking in the itaukei language to SODELPA supporters over the weekend, Ro Teimumu also said “We must protect and defend the Almighty God, Jesus Christ, our Christian beliefs, our land, our country and our culture.

She went on to say that it is their role to preserve what belongs to the iTaukei which include the reinstatement of the Great Council of Chiefs.

Ro Teimumu said that this has to be done as there are only some 500,000 indigenous Fijians on this earth.

The SODELPA leader said that the Great Council of Chiefs will be reinstated with relevant amendments and their plan is to let the chiefs and people determine the GCC’s future in the light of history, identity and tradition.

She also said that SODELPA will publicize all the Auditor General’s reports if it forms the next government as the reports will not be made public by the Bainimarama led government before this year’s general election.

Meanwhile, the SODELPA leader is also raising concern about the government’s Housing Grant Subsidy offered to individuals or couples buying or building new homes if their combined income is not more than $50,000 a year.

Ro Teimumu raised the question on how many itaukei will benefit from the Housing Grant Subsidy.

She also that all communities must come together to strengthen social cohesion, to deepen tolerance and respect, and to forge a greater national unity from our diversity.

But Ro Teimumu said all this cannot be imposed on people.

FijiFirst leader Voreqe Bainimarama had earlier said that people must beware of old and discredited politicians who will attempt to spread lies about FijiFirst and its achievements.
