The new Social Democratic Liberal Party said it is ready to reveal its assets and liabilities however it is calling on the government to reveal the full Auditor General’s reports from late 2006 to date.

SODELPA official, Doctor Tupeni Baba said for accountability and transparency purposes, the government should also reveal the salaries of the ministers.

Doctor Baba said SODELPA officials have already had discussions and they are ready to comply.


We have sent questions to the Attorney General. 

Meanwhile Doctor Baba said SODELPA is happy that it has been registered as a party. 

He said they now are gathering resources to start off party activities and will go around the country over the next few weeks.

The National Federation Party, the Fiji Labour Party and the Social Democratic Liberal Party or SODELPA have been registered under the Political Parties Registration, Conduct, Funding and Disclosures Decree.

Registrar of Political Parties, Mohammed Saneem said these parties will be able to operate, function, represent and hold themselves out to be political parties.

The Registrar said these parties are given 30 days to submit to the Registrar a written declaration giving details of all assets and expenditure including all contributions, donations or pledges of contributions whether in cash or in kind, made or to be made to the initial assets of the political party.

Party officials and in the future party candidates will also have to disclose personal incomes, assets, business connections, directorships, gifts and liabilities.
