Ousted Prime Minister, Laisenia Qarase said the SDL is ready to talk with an open mind about the path to democracy and what can be achieved after the elections.
Qarase said it is important for him to meet the Interim Prime Minister so that they can work together to move Fiji back to democracy by March 2009.
The SDL leader said it is now critical to have the elections in 2009 and also revealed that he is ready to talk to Bainimarama about other issues that the interim government feels that should be put in the priority list for parliament to assess, if the SDL gets back into power.
Qarase said following the discussions on the path to the elections, he can speak on issues such as the SDL's view on the possibility of parliament approving bills to include immunity for those involved in the 2006 takeover.
However Qarase said this discussion can only take place if the election timetable is set. He also stresses that he will only speak on issues that can be looked at under the current constitution.
