SDL Lawyer Contemplates Next Move
Speaking to Fijivillage, Niko Nawaikula said they would be forced to take the matter directly to the courts if the complaint is not pursued by police.
Nawaikula also said he had advised his clients to stay away from their homes after they received the alleged threats after lodging the complaint and due to bad experiences they have had with the police and the military since December 2006.
Director Police Operatins Waisea Tabakau confirmed the top brass of the Fiji POlice Force are expected to decide how to proceed with the complaint lodged by the SDL and others against the Commodore Frank Bainimarama and the RFMF for alleged treason.
Tabakau said while the most critical thing the police has to consider is public order and stability, they will respect the rights of the complainants.
After allegations by lawyer representing the SDL members who are complainants that they are being threatened since filing the complaint, Tabakau said the Police believe there is no truth in their claims.
The complainants include the ousted Prime Minister Laisenia Qarase, Samisoni Tikoinasau, Ted Young, Mere Samisoni, Dr. Tupeni Baba, and Adi Sivia Qoro.
