Ousted Prime Minister Laisenia Qarase said the Soqosoqo Duavata Ni Lewenivanua (SDL) is free to contest the elections under the 1997 constitution.
Qarase said with the constitution in place, the interim government cannot stop the SDL from going into the elections.
The SDL leader also said that the interim government should realize that the SDL is not the only party which is opposing the People's Charter process.
