The Sugar Cane Growers Council is thankful to the Government for facilitating the additional amount of $3.74 per tonne to top up the actual payment of $2.26 per tonne which was certified by the Sugar Industry Tribunal.

Acting Chief Executive, Sundresh Chetty said with the announcement of $6.00 per tonne payment, the growers will be able to prepare for the new harvesting season which is due to commence on 1st June at Penang Mill in Rakiraki.

Crushing at other three mills is likely to commence in the third week of June.
     
The Council is urging the growers of Penang Mill Area to hold their gang meetings and submit the completed gang MOGA forms as soon as possible so that harvesting arrangements could be finalized without any further delays.

The Fiji Sugar Corporation has assured that the Mill is ready to commence crushing on 1st June 2010 and rail transport infrastructure has undergone the required maintenance and upgrade works.
