The Fiji Cane Growers Association maintains that they want Sugarcane Growers Council election to be called in April this year.

Association alleges that Interim Sugar Minister, Mahendra Chaudhry has decided to postponed the elections by another year however, President Ratu Josefa Iloilo had directed last year that growers council elections will be held this year.

FCGA general secretary, Bala Dass said the current council's term expires end of next month and an election must be held.

Dass said the National Farmers Union are in control of the Growers council as out of 11 board members, nine are from NFU and only two are from FCGA.

Meanwhile, NFU president, Jain Kumar said no decision has been made on the council elections yet.
