The board meeting for the Sugar Cane Growers Council is underway in Lautoka where discussions are expected to be held on the upcoming growers council elections to be held at the end of this month.

Chairman, Jain Kumar said the meeting may conclude by midday.

It has been confirmed that an acting Chief Executive Officer for the Growers Council will be appointed during this meeting after former CEO, Jai Gawander resigned from his position and joined the Sugar Institute of Fiji last month.

The Fiji Cane Growers Association wants elections to be held soon as possible as they are not happy with some decisions made by the current council. President Ratu Josefa Iloilo deferred the Growers Council elections last year to be held this year.

The 38 member council is currently run by 24 councillors from the National Farmers Union, 12 from the Fiji Cane Growers Association and two independent councillors.
