The Sugar Cane Growers Council is now liaising with the Native Land Trust Board to renew land leases.
Council Chairman, Jain Kumar said that some land leases have been renewed in Rakiraki area after positive talks between landowners, Sugar Cane Growers Council and farmers.
Kumar added that they will now meet with the newly appointed Native Land Trust Board Chairman in relations to the renewal of land leases.
The expiry of land leases has forced many evicted farmers from Northern and Western Division to live in squatter settlements in the greater Suva area.
