The Suva City council is now trying to limit the number of taxis which will be assigned for transporting tourists around Suva from cruise liners.
Administrator, Vijendra Prakash said the council has received complaints on a number of issues where taxi drivers have been found taking advantage of the tourists and some even overcharging them.
Prakash confirms the new taxi drivers will undergo training after which they will be the only certified taxi operators to transport tourists from cruise liners.
The step has been taken after Tourism Minister, Aiyaz Sayed Khaiyum stated that serious steps need to be taken by municipal councils if more tourists are to be attracted in our towns and cities.
