About 180 employees of the Suva City Council, who are members of the SCC Staff Association, have threatened to go on strike if management fails to address the union's grievances.

Secretary Krishna said during the implementation of the job evaluation exercise the council has not agreed to honour whatever was agreed upon.

He added that in 2004, it was agreed that by this year the salary for all 180 staff would increase by about 6.5% however, there is a short fall from one to six thousand in salaries, for each staff.

Krishna said SCC has to pay about $250,000 and the council said they are not in the position to make this payment.

The Association is expected to meet with management this Thursday to resolve the issue.

However, Town Clerk, Ilitomasi Verenakadavu said the matter is closed as they are following the framework of the signed agreement. He stresses no negotiations are pending between the Association and SCC.
