The Suva City Council has warned that people can be prosecuted and their equipment can be seized if they continue to create public nuisance.

This is after concerns were raised that some religious organisations continue to make loud noise at night using loud speakers creating public nuisance.

Special Administrator Chandu Umaria said loud noise after 10pm is not allowed however before that the sound level should be at a reasonable level so that members of the public are not disturbed.

He has also confirmed that some shop owners in the Suva city have also been told by the council to lower the volume of the radio in their shops following some complaints.

Meanwhile officers from the Suva city council are cracking down on vendors selling cooked ivi along the footpaths in the capital city.

Fijivillage witnessed the officers pulling the vendors aside and speaking to them yesterday.

Some vendors, moved instantly while others refused to budge despite the pleas from the SCC staff.

The vendors Fijivillage spoke to say that it is their only source of income and they cannot afford to pay for stalls at the Suva market.

The vendors also say that it is easier to sell along the footpaths as padestrian traffic is more in the city centers during peak hours.

However, Umaria said what the vendors are doing is illegal, and while he said the council understands the hardships these vendors face, but they must go.
