Every year, tonnes of rubbish is collected from the Suva area and even non rate payers are enjoying this service.
That is the sentiment of Director of Health for the Suva City Council Nacanieli Kotoiwasawasa justifying the need to charge $25 extra to all home owners.
Kotoiwasawasa said that the garbage fee is a must as the council addresses the issue of litter in the Suva area.
He added that the SCC has no choice but to levy the charge of using Naboro Landfill on all homeowners in the Suva area.
Meanwhile, Kotoiwasawasa added that the homeowners are not the only ones that will be paying extra fees, as the council is looking at introducing fees for tenants as well.
The SCC is charged a certain fee for every tonne of rubbish taken to the Naboro Landfill as well as gate fees, which in the past two years has seen SCC use over $1 million.
