Any defaulting ratepayer that owns a business or a taxi permit faces the likelihood of their license being revoked if they do not pay up rates owed to the Suva City Council.
Special Administrator Chandu Umaria said this after revelation that 12.8million dollars is being owed to the Council.
Umaria stressed that their rate payers who operate a business or are taxi base owners could end up losing their license if rates are not paid.
Meanwhile, the Suva City Council is expected to enter into a memorandum of understanding with the Ministry of Lands and other stakeholder’s in order to speed up the process of rate collection.
Out of the 12.8 million dollars being owed to the Council, more than seven million dollars is being owed by people living in Housing Authority land, as well as Ministry of Lands and the Native Land Trust Board land.
He also said that about two million dollars city rates is not paid for this year alone while other rate arrears have accumulated over the last twenty years.
