The Suva City Council has managed to collect more than $300,000 in rates for this month alone.
Suva / Lami Special Administrator, Chandu Umaria said the rates owed to the council that now runs in to millions of dollars have been outstanding for more than 20 years, and despite numerous calls made by the council, rate payers are still not taking the warnings seriously.
However, he said they are happy that some ratepayers have taken the initiative to pay their rates.
Rates owed to the council for this year alone stands at $3 million, while rates accumulated over the years stands at $14 million.
