People have been cautioned to refrain from buying food from unauthorised food stalls after the death of a woman two weeks ago.

The Suva City Council has placed a ban on the selling of pre-cooked sea food and meat from the Suva market following the death of a woman, and the hospitalisation of two others after eating pre-packed food two weeks ago.

Special Administrator for Suva, Marica Hallacy said the woman bought a serve of Mana (mud crabs) from the market on 9th January, took it home and had it with two others.

On that same evening they started feeling weak and were rushed to the CWM Hospital.

The woman later died that night and the other two were hospitalised.

According to Hallacy, following this incident, the Council had a meeting on Monday and decided to impose the ban on the sale of all pre-cooked meat at the market until further notice.

SCC has banned the sale of pre-cooked BBQ, mud crabs or mana, prawns, kaikoso and sea grapes or nama at the market.
