The Suva City Council has agreed to conditionally lift the ban on the sale of low and medium risk cooked food items.
The decision was also made on after due consideration given on the effect of the ban on market vendors in the past weeks.
Suva City Council Director Health Services Nacanieli Kotoiwaswasa said the Council will allow the sale of medium and low risk food items after considering the process, nature and status of how the food items are prepared.
Market Vendors are to obtain approval letters for food kitchens or food preparation sites from the respective Local Health Authorities where food preparation premises are located.
On the sale of Live Mud lobster, vendors must first obtain a letter from the village Headman or the Provincial Council Officials confirming that the mud lobster sold were harvested through the known apparent traditional method.
No sale of food items are to be conducted from the market floor and no preparation of cooked food is to be done in the market.
