Requests made by the residents of Muanivatu squatter settlement in Vatuwaqa for a further extension on the eviction deadline for the end of this month has been denied by the Suva City Council.
According to the Deputy Lord Mayor Josefa Gavidi, he said the council has received a request letter from ECREA for the extension, but the council has denied the request.
ECREA had written to the council reqesting for an extension of 18 months on the deadline as well as a request to finalise re-location plans for Raiwai instead of Sasawira.
Gavidi said the eviction notice given for the end of this month still stands and the council will not change its stance on the issue.
The SCC wants the 94 families in Muanivatu to move from the area as the council wants to develop the land the squatters are occupying into a recreational park.
