Sonny Bill William's 11th hour decision to play in the Rugby League World Cup has had an extraordinary effect on ticket sales.

A tournament spokesperson has revealed that Williams has accounted for an extra 20,000 ticket sales as a result of his decision.

The Rugby League World Cup kicks off this Sunday and the Vodafone Fiji Bati takes on Ireland at 7am next Tuesday.

England plays Australia in the first game at 1.30am Sunday.
