Rugby and barbecues have helped define both South Africans and Kiwis.
So it was a natural choice to welcome the Springboks to Wellington with a BBQ lunch as they defend their Rugby World Cup title, starting by turning the heat up on their first opponents Wales.
Captain John Smit is looking forward to the challenges knowing that both sides cannot afford a loss in their first game.
The Springboks is in Pool D with Fiji, Wales, Namibia and Samoa.
