South Africa's IRB Rugby World Cup victory over England sees them rise to the top spot in the latest IRB World Rankings.

They overtake New Zealand, whose 40-month reign is the longest period any team has held the number one position. NZ is now rated second in the world while Argentina, who recorded a remarkable 34-10 win over France in the RWC bronze final, jump three places to third.

Losing RWC 2007 finalists England drop one place to fourth.

France drop two places to sixth, below Australia in fifth.

The FMF Flying Fijians remain in 9th place although they played in the quarter final. Ireland remains in 7th place although they did not qualify for the World Cup quarters.
