Defending IRB 7's series champions South Africa believes their only chance to retain their title is to beat both New Zealand and Fiji in Wellington this weekend.
The Paul Treu coached side lies in 8th spot in the points standing and they're hoping they can win the New Zealand 7's title on Saturday.
South Africa is in Pool A with New Zealand, Niue and Wales with the possibility of meeting either Fiji or Australia in the 1/4 final.
Treu said Wellington provides an opportunity for his boys to get their IRB 7's series campaign back on track.
He adds the senior players in the team will have to step up in the New Zealand 7's to deliver the results.
The New Zealand 7's will kick-off on Friday at 1pm with Samoa playing France.
At 2.28pm Fiji will take on Scotland in their opening pool game.
